Possible bug - SLS Rendevous with Altair Lander
« on: August 17, 2016, 11:29:41 AM »
Having successfully followed the YouTube instructions a few days ago on how to do this from low Earth orbit, in the last day or so I have found that having pointed at the lander and applied thrust the distance initially decreases as expected, but then when it stops decreasing changing to retrograde and applying thrust to reduce relative velocity results in the velocity and distance increasing. It also seems that using retrograde reduces the periapsis (as you would expect) but then takes the SLS out of Earth orbit. Does the rendezvous procedure depend on the relative positions of the SLS and lander at the start (and is this variable), or am I doing something wrong?

I think this may be me rather than a bug - just managed to successfully dock again but not sure what I did differently. Will try to work it out.
