General Discussion / Response to posts
« on: November 01, 2017, 10:42:41 PM »
It is a shame that beta testers such as thierryspeth seem to have stopped posting. I appreciate the huge pressure that jcarrion must be under, and the fantastic work he has done to date, but I am concerned that some testers may be being put off as a result of lack of response to their posts. I am not sure what the answer is, but thought it worth mentioning.

General Discussion / iOS/mobile bugs
« on: August 14, 2017, 10:46:45 AM »
As I am sure most will be aware, there have been a number of bugs reported recently. We are also aware of what a fantastic job jcarrion has done on the mobile version. There has been very little response to many of the reported bugs, but this is understandable given how busy he is working on the steam version. I assume that the bugs are being logged and  am hoping that they will be addressed at some stage in the future. I am concerned that the reporting of bugs is proving a distraction to the work on the steam version and wondering if jcarrion would prefer we hold off reporting any more for the time being.  Clearly if the reported bugs are proving useful in the ongoing development, then it is worth continuing to report them. I am sure we would all welcome ApolloGirl's views on this.

Report your Bugs here! / Apollo Lunar Landing bug - help please!
« on: July 25, 2017, 09:50:20 PM »
As reported under 1.42 Beta testing, I have been trying a continous Apollo mission from Kennedy launch to lunar landing. After reaching Earth orbit I set inclination to 0, and the program 15 for TLI. I use the Orbit Planner to adjust the orbit to intersect the Moon orbit, and then achieve Lunar orbit and set inclination to 0. I reduce apoapsis to approximately 2100km and circularise the orbit. I then transfer from CSM to LM and undock. I then use AGC program 17 to initiate Lunar descent. At 50km altitude program 63 gets automatically initiated, and then at about 3.6km program 64. I use the Ship > Gear command to extend the LM's legs. Everything looks fine, but on landing the LM crashes with complete loss of hull and crew.

Betatest Area / BETA 1.42 bugs - Apollo mission
« on: July 06, 2017, 10:33:53 AM »
I have been trying a full Apollo mission from launch to moon landing (without selecting individual missions).

Bug - unlike release 1.07, no cockpit 'shake'. This detracts from the realism. Would it also be worthwhile having some cockpit shake when staging and docking?

After attaining earth orbit, I use the Orbit Planner when over Africa to set the inclination to zero. I then use the Orbit Planner (dV and dT) to align the trajectory with the Moon's orbit. I accelerate time to move from Earth orbit. With release 1.07, this resulted in initiating the SII/SIV separation. With Beta 1.42, it seems that this has to be done from the cockpit (which in itself is not a problem).

I then use AGC Programs 33 and 79 for transposition and docking and the Orbit Planner for a mid-course correction. On a few occasions the new docking MFD is unresponsive.

After attaining Moon Orbit, I  circularise the Orbit (using Orbit Planner) and reduce altitude to approximately 100km. I then perform the LM/CSM transfer (Cockpit > Ship:Transfer) and LM/CSM Separation (Cockpit > Ship:Undock). I then initiate Lunar descent using AGM Program 17. At about 50km Program 63 gets automatically initiated (on some occasions this doesn't happen and has to be done manually) and at about 3.6km, Program 64.

The descent seems to continue normally, although the LM legs do not appear to be splayed with extending probes as they are in the single mission and the tutorial. Just before landing, both vertical and horizontal speeds are less than 10km/hr. Despite this, landing results in a crash with complete loss of crew and hull. This did not happen in release 1.07.

General Discussion / Earth to Mars interplanetary travel
« on: January 13, 2017, 02:07:32 PM »
Has anyone managed to successfully travel from Earth to Mars orbit using the Orion Shuttle? If so, can you let me know how - I have struggled with this using the orbital planner.

General Discussion / Orbit Planner queries

What is the significance of the 'Sim Step' , 'Auto' and 'Compute' options in the Orbit Planner?

Report your Bugs here! / New Beta 1.35 iOS - Trans Earth Injection
« on: November 18, 2016, 10:53:45 AM »
Following TEI, when CSM is on route to Earth  if time compression is being used, it is disabled with low altitude message despite the fact that CSM is a long distance from the Moon (or Earth). Time compression had been enabled by disabling altitude hold. When the low altitude message is received, if altitude hold is re-enabled, then the time compression can be resumed. The TEI tutorial seems to not have the same problem.

Following lunar ascent, used docking MFD to approach within 5km then program 72 (coelliptic rendevus). As approached CSM pressed STOP (Kill velocity) on docking MFD. Resulted in crash.

Using the Orbit Planner for an Apollo lunar transfer results in a crash

Betatest Area / New Beta 1.34 iOS - RCSROT slider

Same issue as in 1.33 - doesn't appear to work making manual docking very difficult

Betatest Area / New Beta 1.34 - Orbit Planner

The 'Scale' slider in the Orbit Planner is very useful, but I still can't use it to get close enough to achieve Mars orbit. Any suggestions. What is the 'Compute' button for? The graphical enhancements are great - e.g. the ability to easily switch between internal and external view and the full screen and tab screens

When performing the above either on the Apollo 9 mission or following lunar ascent, the CM is not docked to the SM (I presume it should be) and what looks like Saturn Stage 1 is in close proximity.

Report your Bugs here! / Problems with Samsung A5 2016 install
« on: October 02, 2016, 02:16:17 PM »
I have just installed the simulator on a new  Samsung A5. When I try and load the app it doesn't get beyond the Brixton Dynamics splash screen. I  wouldn't think about asking for a refund given the amount of work that has gone into the app, but thought it worth reporting in case it is affecting other users.

Betatest Area / Beta version 1.33 - TLI
« on: September 26, 2016, 03:49:37 PM »
I am having problems with Apollo TLI. In the tutorial I am able to use time acceleration until I get to the point where I am prompted to prepare for TLI, and shortly afterwards to enter the AGC verb 35 and noun 15. This initiates the burn a sort time later.

If I choose Real Scenarios and Apollo in low orbit preparing for TLI, I can't use time acceleration unless I set ATHOLD. If I do this I don't get prompted to prepare for TLI. If I enter the TLI AGC code, nothing seems to happen. I am not sure if this is because it is waiting to get the the necessary position. I have tried using time acceleration with ATHOLD set, but again TLI never seems to initiate. Not sure if this is a bug or if I am doing something wrong.

Betatest Area / Beta version 1.33

I have come across the following problems so far:

1. SLS Rendevous with Altair lander from low earth orbit. If you use 'Direct' to point to the lander, and then try and use time compression, you are now prompted to set the attitude to 'Att Hold'. If you do this the Docking MFD comes out of the 'Point to' program to the 'None' program. If you change back to 'Direct', you cannot use time compression unless you cancel the 'Att Hold' and then reset it.

2. When using RCSROT in manual mode to manoeuvre the SLS command module, the forward and backward thruster slider does not appear to work as it does in 1.06.

3. Have there been any changes made to the orbital planner. I still find it impossible to do a Mars orbit transfer (Saturn and Jupiter are fine). I was hoping that the new release would provide a finer adjustment when using the planner.
